Optimization of uniaxial compressive strength of silty sand soil stabilized with liquid vinyl acetate polymer using response surface methodology (RSM)

Abstract
Soil stabilization and improvement is a branch of geotechnical science that improves the engineering and geomechanical properties of weak soils, including strength, ductility, and bearing capacity. In this study, liquid vinyl acetate polymer was used as an additive to stabilize silty sandy soil and to investigate its effect on soil strength parameters. For this purpose, after stabilizing the soil with different percentages of polyvinyl acetate additive, uniaxial compressive strength tests were performed on the stabilized samples during immediate, 1, 7, 14, and 28-day curing times. Also, in order to investigate the effect of the additive under different conditions, the RSM statistical analysis method was used. According to the results of the experiments and statistical analysis, in general, increasing the amount of additive to a certain percentage at a fixed curing time increased the uniaxial compressive strength of the soil. Also, by increasing the curing time at a constant percentage of additive, the uniaxial compressive strength increases significantly.
